JIS Year 12 Information Programme : DAY TWO

Today is the 25th of June 2009, Thursday. I had my 2nd day at JIS, where we had this 'Career & Higher Education' talk.

They gave us forms to help us and all, and talked to us about that. Right now, they told us that we have start thinking about WHAT we want to do AFTER university and all. They gave us forms to help us out, and even encouraged us. But of course, it wouldn't be JIS if it wasn't so interesting and sort of funny.

I had to say that it really got me thinking about it.

Well, after that, they brought the new students (and the old students had to go to separate different groups). So, I bet you're thinking WHY. Well, apparently, the school computer system is WAY better. We actually have good and fast internet speed (way better than mine), and every student has their own account. Which means, your files are only for your eyes. This also prevents any strangers from going on the computer since you need to be logged in.

The new students of course, had no account of their own. Which means, they gave us the 'temp' user access. Of course, we'll be getting our own username and all once we start school. They gave us time to look in UCAS and all for any course that you're going for, including the name of the university. There were at least 5 spaces, and I put in my options for all. So. I think those who went with me to the UK expo thing, you know where I was heading for. You're right! I put in that I'd want to go for 'Business Studies & Japanese' in Cardiff. So the teacher who was part of the 'Career and Higher Education' staff, and also one of those in charge of this talk saw it and was surprised. Then he asked me, "Do you understand Japanese?" in Japanese itself! And I was surprised at first and went like, "Eh?" and he laughed. Of course, being me, I answered, "ちょっと"... which means "A little bit", then he told me that he had worked in Japan for 10 years before, and then talked to me in Japanese for a bit. It was an interesting conversation! And yeah. He's British, by the way.

So after that, we had a 20 minute break where we walked around, then after that, we had to go back to the same room for another talk about leadership. So I got to learn about this one journey made by a group of men to the South Pole, and all. I was sort of interested in it, even if I was a bit sleepy.

After that, we had to go to class. Mine was Business Studies. And unfortunately, I don't know anyone. I mean, I do, but not someone who I talked to before. There were only two girls, including me and the rest were guys. But we were at least just 10 students. Yeah. It's pretty little, but hey, it's better than that one student class! (There were 3 classes where there was only one or two students)

Since most of us didn't know each other, we were quite quiet. The teacher was nice though! We played a game where we had to guess who that famous entrepreneur was. Actually, he (Mr. A. Khan) asked us who has done business studies in O level, and apparently, I'm the only one who didn't. Haaah. I am sort of at a 'disadvantage' compared to the rest, but anyhow! Business is my forte (sort of), so I'll be able to cope with it!

So he told us that we wouldn't be doing much (or any) coursework, but exams. Though, for most of the lessons we'll be watching a LOT of videos of business owners and all. So yeah. Cool, ain't it? Oh, and we got to watch a sample video of it, and yeah, it was about how the owners planned it and all. Most of the work will be based on case studies (and probably projects), but that's fine with me.

After that, I went on my LOOOOOONG way to the other side of the property just to get to my Physics class. I was a bit late, but they haven't started yet. We did a bit of work. I paired up with Natasha, by the way! It's all fine though. Uhm. I was slightly on the... off side, since it's been a while since I worked on these stuff. Anyhow! I had to say that Mr. K. Hill & Mr. K. Stevenson were a bit on the serious side, but nonetheless, I'll be working forward to be their student! At least, now I know that I can cope with the teachers. /nods

Once that was done, we had lunch break. We were a bit.. off at buying the food at the canteen, since it was sort of our first time.. having a board where you can look at so you know what you can buy. There's also this sort of 'buffet' thing, but I didn't want to eat any complicated food, so I went to buy a sandwich. After I went to the counter and tried to pay, they said that I had to get a food coupon with that money so I had to go away and buy food coupons which came in 50 cents, $1 and $3. I bought a stack for $5, where I used $3.50 in buying an egg salad sandwich and a bottle of water.

I had lunch with Natasha, Lynz, Wali, Nazmi and two other girls who are new students as well. It was fun somehow! I got to joke a bit, and yeah. I'm actually socialising. After that, we went back to the first place for some Leadership/Teamwork activity. It was fun though! A few activities which also included having to find out what kind of person you are. I'm a "dreamer", where I'm a creative person. Yeah, it went on like that.

Once that was over, we went home and all.

It wasn't much compared to yesterday, but then it's still good enough for me! I'll be buying my uniforms and books soon though. By next week. /smile

I hope I can buy new school shoes too. Comfortable ones.
